Wonderful Grand Christmas Opening in Rovaniemi, Lapland

As the administrative capital and commercial centre of Finland’s Lapland province, the city of Rovaniemi is actually situated in close proximity to the Arctic Circle. Since this wonderful city is also known as the “hometown of Santa Claus”, its citizens celebrate a fantastic Grand Christmas Opening event each year at the end of November. The celebration takes place on November 23 at the city’s Santa Claus Village, which attracts about 500,000 visitors each year, all eager to meet the famous kind and white-bearded old man in person.

This wonderful celebration marks the official beginning of the holiday season in Lapland, which brings with it numerous ice and snow attractions that remain open until March. Apart from the performance of Santa Claus and the Elf School Class, this wonderful event also impresses with the opening of the Santa Park, which will help entertain a great deal of guests until January 11, 2014.

At the end of December, visitors are invited to a great festive hall in a Lappish Village called Sonka so that they might enjoy the incredible Christmas Fantasy show. The main protagonists of this wonderful event are the forest elves. Moreover, on December 23 at 7PM, Santa Claus starts off on his yearly journey to deliver presents to the children of the world. Many gather in the Santa Claus Village to wish him farewell and to see him depart in his reindeer-drawn sleigh.

Lapland is undoubtedly the best place to go if you want to enjoy an authentic and deep Christmas experience. Santa Claus has been meeting with his guests in Rovaniemi, Lapland since the 1950s, and due to his soaring popularity, he even has his own office in the village. Furthermore, the Santa Claus Village at the Arctic Circle has its own Post Office that receives hundreds of thousands of letters each year from children from all over the world.
