Commissioned by the Holden Manz Wine Estate, (which you can find east of Cape Town, South Africa), the Fresnel Trimaran was designed by Margot Krasojevic and features a folding wingsail, for a better lift to drag ratio, as well as a retractable Kevlar sail covered in aero-nautical film. In addition to the cutting-edge materials and design, the ship is also powered in a highly innovative way, using solar panels, as well as wind energy to generate electricity. This is used to either run the motors, or the integrated desalination unit, which provides about 4 liters of drinking water per hour.

Let’s not forget, this is a hydrofoil boat we’re talking about – so when she gains speed, hydrofoils push the trimaran out of the water, greatly reducing water resistance, and contributing to a further increase in speed, which makes for a really smooth, fast, and fun ride!We rarely get to see a yacht as special as the Fresnel Hydrofoil Trimaran. Currently only in the concept phase, we’ll be definitely keeping an eye out for any further developments related to this awesome ship.
