The Superb Metro Station Water Sculpture in Dubai
Water is the name of a stunning sculpture in the Khalid Bin Al Waleed metro station in Dubai. You can find it beneath the Burjuman Mall, which makes it one of the busiest stations in the city. The name clearly suggests what artist Jitka Kamencová Skuhravá wanted to express with this piece, which was a stylized waterfall, but people ended up calling it “a giant jellyfish”.
The piece is made up of two main sections: the base, which features textured bent glass, and the droplets of water, which is made of hand-blown hollow glass. Inside these individual elongated drops that make up the waterfall, there are stainless steel elements with LEDs and RGB-based optical fiber. With help from a 150W projector, all these different parts glow with a beautiful diffuse light. Not exactly your typical subway environment, is it?
