Nico van der Meulen Architects’ Amazing House Sedibe
This refined suburban home is the work of Nico van der Meulen Architects that envisioned a project that would feature exquisite elements, copper accents and sculpted busts.
Towering over the surroundings, House Sedibe is situated at the center of Bryanston in South Africa’s Johannesburg and it beautifully borders the Riverclub golf course.
The request for the construction of this home was to double its initial size and add another floor to the originally one-story building. Improvements include more focus on the views and an enhanced and modernized appearance of the house.
After a thorough analysis of the original plan, the designers chose to stretch and elongate the building, much like an elastic band, the result being more ample facades, that frame the landscape, and an overall long and narrow design that makes the outside and inside areas merge perfectly. On the two longest facades, frameless folding doors were used to achieve a unique and contemporary look.
The open plan double volume design, a Koi fish pond, the glass staircase and suspended bridges add up to create an airy and tranquil atmosphere. Nico van der Meulen Architects used a natural palette of colors and materials in order to create balance between the landscape and the home itself.
Practical yet luxurious, this estate is a real architectural jewel with its daring designs and sweeping views of the park and the golf course.
