Mercedes-Benz Unveils the 2014 SLS AMG Black Edition
The automotive world will soon receive a new stunner from Mercedes-Benz. The beautiful 2014 SLS AMG Black Series will be launched next June, boasting a long list of excellent features. These include less weight, improved aerodynamics, more appealing design, and extra muscle.
The new ride is visually more similar to the GT3 version and rolls on wider 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels. While for the regular SLS the carbon ceramic brakes were optional, for this baby this feature is standard. Other additions include lots of new carbon fiber parts (optional), such as a new front splitter, large rear diffuser, side skirts, adjustable rear wing, and front dive planes for extra down force.
The new exhaust is 28 pounds lighter than the standard version, bringing the car’s weight to 3417 pounds (145 pounds lighter than standard). Other new goodies are the electronic locking differential, adaptive sports suspension, launch control, carbon fiber driveshaft, titanium exhaust system with quad tailpipes, and more.
Powering the car is a 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 622 HP and a slightly lower toque: 468 lb-ft. The acceleration time, though, is really impressive, having improved by 0.2 seconds. The 0-62 mph time is of just 3.6 seconds, while the maximum speed is 196 mph. Fast and powerful, the SLS AMG Black Series is also very fuel efficient, boasting 17 mpg US, and CO2 emissions of 321 g/km.
On the inside, the new car flaunts an Alcantara steering wheel, a carbon fiber central console, and lightweight sport seats. The COMAND multimedia system was taken out to save 13 more lbs, and the regular battery was swapped with a new li-ion one, thus discarding 17 more lbs. We’ll definitely learn more about it, including price and availability, as the launch date approaches.
