Impressive Detroit Electric SP01
This beautiful two-seater electric sports car was made by Detroit Electric, and it is based on the Lotus Exige model. The vehicle is powered by a mid-mounted electric motor that is able to dish out some pretty impressive power figures such as 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque and 201 horsepower.
The power comes from a very efficient and lightweight battery pack, which is why the SP:01 is (according to Detroit Electric) the “world’s fastest pure-electric production car”. Given the fact that it is able to reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) and do a 0-62 sprint in just 3.7 seconds, this idea is not farfetched at all. The transmission is ensured by a 4-speed manual gearbox that can be replaced with a 2-speed automatic if the client is willing to pay extra. The battery requires just 4.3 hours of charging and provides a range of 190 miles (306 km).
Other details include regenerative braking and ABS, Brembo rear and EP front disk brakes as well as 175/55 R16 tires at the front and 225/45 R17 ones at the rear. The car can also be used as a power generator thanks to a bi-directional discharge and charge system called 360 Powerback.
Just 999 units will ever be made, each with a price tag of $135,000 featuring 3-year or 30,000-mile warranty as well as an extended battery warranty of 5 years or 50,000 miles at extra cost. The SP:01 will enter production in August and will be manufactured at Detroit Electric’s own plant in Wayne Country, Michigan.
