Beautiful Shiofune Kannon-ji Temple
Among the many magical places of Japan, the Shiofune Kannon-ji temple is one of tranquility, serenity and wonder. Even its location is special, being situated in a small depression shaped as a bowl with its walls beautifully decorated with rich floral motifs.
The flowers attract numerous visitors every year between April and May when they are in full bloom. Called Azaleas, they are essentially colorful bushes that look like individual bouquets put together for a huge display of natural beauty.
About 20,000 such bushes surround the 1,300 year old Buddhist Temple, giving the impression that they actually protect the holy place with their delicate and ephemeral presence. When the Azaleas are in full bloom, an annual festival is held here in their honor. It is the perfect time of year to visit the temple, but you must be prepared for a crowded experience, as thousands of other people will be there to admire the views as well.
