Beautiful Blagaj in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Blagaj is one of those settlements that doesn’t need to be large to be impressive and worth visiting. It is a village-town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring a unique mix of rural and urban structures. Its layout sets it apart from other similar places in the country, and its lovely weather makes it an excellent tourist destination.

You will find it at the spring of the Buna River, where an old tekke still exists today. A tekke is a sort of monastery, a place of meditation, spiritual retreat and character development. The complex was built in the 16th century and is now one of the country’s many national monuments.

Another local tourist attraction is the Old Blagaj Fort, situated on a steep hill and flaunting surprisingly well preserved 45-foot walls. Bosnian queen Katarina Kosača-Kotromanić was born in this historic fortified residence.

You can also find a mysterious green cave here, situated above the spring and only accessible by boat. Archeologists have found pottery items dating back to 3000-2800 BC in it. The beauty of Blagaj will remain with you for a long time. The imposing cliffs and the spring water that rushes from beneath them are a sight to remember.
