A Look Inside Largest Building in the World
The Chinese managed to prove their building prowess once again by giving us the world’s largest freestanding building – The New Century Global Center. This giant building can be found in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan province, China, and it is placed directly across from the Chengdu Contemporary Arts Centre designed by Zaha Hadid.
In order to better understand how gigantic it is, just imagine that it can encompass three Pentagon buildings or 20 Sydney Opera Houses. Furthermore, the structure occupies 19 million square feet of space out of which 1,3 million are dedicated to shopping areas such as stores and boutiques. Other attractions include a multitude of hotels, an ice-skating rink, a Mediterranean village, a water park and even an artificial beach. When visiting this man-made beach, guests don’t even have to worry about the weather, since the New Century Global Center features its very own artificial Sun, which provides much needed light and heat around the clock.
Apart from its undisputable functionality, this building represents a symbol of engineering and architectural ingenuity that will surely go down in history as one of the most extraordinary human accomplishments of the 21st century.
